2019 Global BIGGIES Finalists announced

9 April 2019 – The Data & AI for Media Association is pleased to announce the finalists for the Global BIGGIES Awards Competition for 2019. The awards competition drew participation from the most innovative media companies implementing data and artificial intelligence initiatives, and has produced 27 finalists from Asia, North America and Europe.
The Awards will be bestowed at Microsoft in San Francisco on Thursday, May 2 in the evening after the first day of the 10th Data & AI for Media Week conference.
The BIGGIES Awards aim to reward best practices in Big Data and artificial intelligence products and strategies to media companies from around the world.
The contest ran from November 2018 to March 2019, and includes entries that were published during 2018.

The companies vying for first place, second place, third place, outstanding achievement, and Best of Show include: The British Broadcasting Corporation, United Kingdom; Mather Economics, United States; United Daily News Group, Taiwan; Channel 4 Television, United Kingdom; La Presse, Canada; American Press Institute, United States; USA TODAY NETWORK, United States; Prizm Group, Hong Kong; DataTech, Hong Kong; and Mediacorp, Singapore.
Entries were judged in 9 categories.
The BIGGIES Awards categories are:
- Excellence in Data Analytics
- Excellence in Data Strategy
- Excellence in Data-Driven Advertising
- Excellence in Data-Driven Business Process Efficiency
- Excellence in Data-Driven Product Development
- Excellence in Data-Driven Technology
- Excellence in the Use of Creativity with Data
- Excellence in the Use of Artificial Intelligence
- Excellence in the Use of Predictive Analytics
- Of the nine categories, the finalists will compete to win the BIGGIES Best of Show
A total of 27 finalists emerged from the target group of participants, The contest rules require the entrants are media companies including newspapers, magazines and digital publications, broadcast, advertising agencies and marketing agencies that circulate/broadcast locally, regionally, nationally or internationally.

The competition includes a specialty category called Excellence in the Use of Creativity with Data. The sole finalist is the BBC News’ entry, “Climate change food calculator: What's your diet's carbon footprint?”
